This is a product by Somerset that we have purchased several truckloads of. It is a ¾ x 2-¼ utility grade solid red oak floor, pre-finished to a Gunstock color.
Somerset’s utility grade wood is basically a #3 grade. You can expect more shorter length boards than a #1 wood as well as a larger quantity of mineral content (dark contrasting colors and streaks) and along with that, you will find that there will be a higher amount of waste due to cracks and knot holes (knot impressions get installed). We have sold and\or installed thousands of feet of this grade of wood from Somerset and have found it to be a beautiful floor for those that are looking for a colorful, rustic look.
When figuring how much you need, add a waste factor of 15% to 20%. This is the amount of waste that we have experienced with this wood. Adding this much should allow you to “cull out” the boards that are miss-milled or damaged (cracked) as well as the normal waste that you get when installing any wood.
All that being said, you should know that this wood has the same finish used on the regular line of Somerset products and you can expect the same finish life as you would get on their 25 year warranted floors, even though this wood has No Warranty.
